Couples Therapy

You can spend a lifetime being curious about the inner world of your partner, and being brave enough to share your own inner world, and never be done discovering all there is to know about each other. It’s exciting.
— John Gottman

The foundation of my couples work revolves around establishing emotional safety in the room so that partners can hear each other, sometimes for the first time despite many attempts. I aim to create an environment where both partners can connect with each other on a vulnerable level and leave feeling seen, heard, and encouraged to continue connecting outside of therapy.

My therapeutic specialties related to couples include:

  • Navigating developmental and life transitions

  • Exploring the impact of family of origin on present day dynamics

  • Increasing positive interactions building a foundation of respect

  • Developing effective communication

  • Facilitating discernment conversations related to whether a couple plans to separate or commit to creating change

One of my primary specialty areas is DISCERNMENT COUNSELING- a structured approach aimed at helping both partners have greater clarity and confidence in terms of their decision-making for the future of their relationship and a greater awareness of each person’s role in the current dynamics.

I use an eclectic mix of treatment modalities, depending on the specific needs of my families.  These are a few I often rely on in couples therapy:

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Collaborative Family Therapy

  • Solution-Focused Therapy

  • Structural Family Therapy

  • Gottman Couples Therapy

  • Doherty’s Discernment Counseling
